What Cortex is — and is not
What it is
Cortex is an AI financial brain providing personal-finance education and decision support. It is designed to:
- Link deposit, investment, credit, and liability accounts through RBI Account Aggregator with your consent.
- Categorise transactions, surface spending, subscriptions, net worth, and forecasts.
- Run deterministic engines on your data (idle cash, regular-plan drag, tax awareness, CIBIL-oriented utilisation, due dates) and show the working.
- Answer questions in Ask Cortex, grounded in linked data.
What it is not
- Not a SEBI-Registered Investment Adviser. Nothing Cortex outputs is investment advice within the SEBI (Investment Advisers) Regulations, 2013. Cortex does not recommend a specific stock, mutual-fund scheme, broker, ULIP, or ELSS product by name for a fee.
- Not an IRDAI-licensed insurance broker or distributor. Cortex does not sell, compare, or recommend insurance, and has no referral arrangement with any insurer or broker.
- Not a Chartered Accountant or registered return preparer. Tax features are educational. Cortex does not file returns.
- Not a PFRDA intermediary. Cortex does not open NPS accounts.
- Not regulated by the Reserve Bank of India as a bank, NBFC, or payment system. Cortex does not hold funds, issue credit, or operate a payment rail. It participates as an Account Aggregator consumer of FI data you consent to share — it is not itself an FIU/FIP licence on this page until we say otherwise.
- Not an execution venue. Cortex does not place trades, transfer money, or submit credit-card applications as your agent unless a later version of these Terms and a separate consent say that it does.
Cortex sells no financial products and earns no commission, referral fee, or revenue share from any financial services provider. Decisions you take are yours. For advice specific to your circumstances, consult a registered professional of your own choosing.
04
AI disclosure
Ask Cortex replies, and any generated plan or explanation that uses a language model, are generated by an AI model. Cortex remains fully accountable for that output, including errors and omissions. This disclosure is made having regard to SEBI (Investment Advisers) Regulations 18(9) where that standard of transparency applies to AI-assisted financial communication.
Before first use, the product shows an AI disclosure you must accept. You can withdraw that consent later; Ask then becomes unavailable. When you use AI features, a redacted payload may be processed outside India. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what leaves India.
AI output can be wrong. It may misread a transaction, miscategorise a merchant, or state something inaccurate. Check anything you intend to act on. Numbers that matter are produced by deterministic engines and shown with their working; the model is not allowed to invent figures that fail those checks.
05
Your account
- One account per email address. Authentication is a one-time code or magic link emailed to you — Cortex does not store a reusable password.
- You are responsible for the security of that inbox and of your device.
- Financial data is decrypted on your device. Do not share an unlocked session. Sign out ends sessions we can revoke.
- You may close the account at any time. Live erasure is described in the Privacy Policy and is designed to complete in seconds.
- If you suspect compromise, sign out everywhere and write to support@trycortex.live from a recovered address.
06
Price
Cortex may operate a free beta, a paid subscription, or both. Figures shown on the marketing site (including any ₹499/month early-bird price) are an offer to the waitlist until billing is switched on. We do not collect card details until we publish billing terms.
If we introduce a paid plan, we will publish price, taxes, billing period, cancellation, and refund rules here beforecharging anyone, give at least 30 days' notice in-product and by email, and will not charge an existing user without a separate opt-in.
Some features may have fair-use limits (Ask volume, sync frequency). Current limits, if any, are shown in the product.
07
Acceptable use
You may not:
- Use Cortex for any unlawful purpose, including money laundering, tax evasion, or fraud.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source of the Service except as Indian law allows.
- Use bots, scrapers, or automated tools against the Service without written permission.
- Attempt to bypass rate limits, the age gate, encryption, row-level security, or compliance filters.
- Upload another person’s personal data without their consent.
- Attempt to manipulate or extract the underlying model, including prompt-injection or jailbreak attempts intended to disable safety filters.
- Resell, white-label, or expose the Service through your own product without a written agreement.
We may suspend or close an account for breach, with notice where reasonable.
08
Availability
Cortex is provided on a best-effort basis and may be in private beta. Features may change, break, or be withdrawn. Account Aggregator, FIP outages, or model-provider outages are outside our exclusive control. Where a change is material and we can reasonably give notice, we will.
09
Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by Indian law:
- The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty that it will be uninterrupted or error-free.
- Cortex does not warrant that insights, forecasts, yields, CIBIL-oriented signals, or AI output are accurate, complete, or suitable for your situation. Tax rules change; markets fluctuate; FI data can lag or omit products.
- Yields and rates shown on the marketing site are illustrative, based on publicly available market data, and are not an offer.
- You are responsible for checking anything you act on. Any financial decision you take is entirely yours.
10
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Indian law:
- Cortex’s total liability for any claim relating to the Service is capped at ₹1,000, or the amount you paid Cortex in the preceding 12 months if that is greater.
- Cortex is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost investment returns, or loss of data.
- Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for gross negligence, wilful misconduct, fraud, or death or personal injury caused by negligence. Your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 are unaffected.
11
Indemnity
You will indemnify Cortex against third-party claims arising from your use of the Service in breach of these Terms, your breach of law, or your infringement of a third party’s rights.
12
Intellectual property
- The Cortex name, mark, design, and software are owned by Cortex or its licensors.
- You keep ownership of the data you put into Cortex (including FI data fetched on your consent). You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to process it solely to operate the Service, as described in the Privacy Policy.
- Insights and replies generated for you are licensed to you for personal use. They are not professional advice.
13
Third-party services
The Service depends on hosting and authentication (Supabase, India), Account Aggregator connectivity (Setu and participating FIPs), and, if you consent, an AI provider (processed in the United States). Their terms govern their components. We are not liable for their independent outages except where Indian law says otherwise.
14
Termination
- You may close your account at any time in the product, or by emailing support@trycortex.live.
- We may suspend or close an account for breach of these Terms or of applicable law, with notice where reasonable.
- On closure, live data is erased as described in the Privacy Policy — everything except consent and audit artefacts retained in anonymised form as a legal minimum.
- Sections that should survive — liability, indemnity, intellectual property, governing law — do survive.
15
Governing law and disputes
- These Terms are governed by the laws of India.
- Raise a dispute first with support@trycortex.live. We will try to resolve it within 30 days.
- If unresolved, the parties will attempt good-faith discussion before litigation. The courts of Bengaluru, Karnataka have jurisdiction.
- Nothing here removes your statutory rights, including escalation to the Data Protection Board of India or recourse under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
16
Changes to these Terms
We may amend these Terms when features or rules change. Material changes are notified in-product, and by email if we have an address for you, at least 30 days before they take effect. If you do not agree, close the account before then. Continuing to use the Service after the effective date means you accept the change.
